Administrative Classification of Forests

In the state, forests are divided into three classes on the basis of the administration. These are discussed below:

1. Reserved Forests 

2. Protected Forests

3. Unclassified Forests

1. Reserved Forests

  • These forests are completely under the control of the government. Grazing of animals and cutting of trees are completely banned in these forests.
  • These forests are protected for land reclamation, control of floods and wood supply. It provides protection to wildlife. Many valuable forest products are also obtained from these forests.
  • The 5 districts with maximum area under reserved forests in descending order in the state are Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Kaithal Kurukshetra and Mahendragarh.
  • The districts with minimum area under reserved forests in the state are Sirsa, Nuh, Bhiwani, Palwal and Faridabad.
  • There are no reserved forests in 6 districts of Haryana which are Fatehabad, Hisar, Jhajjar, Panipat Sonipat and Rohtak.
